Whenever I see a kid with his pants down to his knees, I get the sudden urge to smack someone.

Personally, I think that baggy clothes show disrespect. I realize it may be the 'cool' thing to do, but I don't like it. Does that mean that I wouldn't let my child dress in this manner? Honestly, probably not. I try to allow my children to express themselves in any way that isn't harmful to themselves or anyone else. If I had to choose between allowing this type of clothing or a tattoo, I would definately opt for the clothes.

There are a few things I've learned about parenting. For starters, you have to choose your battles. If you decide to argue with your children over every single thing they do that you don't agree with it will only cause more rebellion and anger. You were a kid once, did you like it whenever your parents 'ruled' your world? More than likely that answer is no.

On the other hand, if I began to notice that the wearing of this type of clothing was changing my child's attitude I would find a way to readjust it. If that means removing the clothing then so be it.

My teenage daughter gets frustrated sometimes because I don't permit her to wear some of the types of clothes that her friends do. Although, I don't limit everything in her wardrobe, I do insist that each skirt is a certain length (to the tips of the fingers when she puts her arms on her sides) and many times I make her wear a thin pair of shorts under those skirts just so I know she is covered. The only reason I am more strict on this issue with her is because I know what wearing skimpy clothes can lead to, and THAT can be harmful to her. Otherwise, she gets to choose every item she wears.

Our kids do need the opportunity to figure out who they are, but that should also be accomplished through proper guidance. If you just let them do whatever they want you may end up regretting it. So far, I think parenting is mainly just common sense, so as long as you have some and choose to use it you should be just fine. (My children are 17,13, 6 and 3) I've had a little practice...

Thank God my 4 kids were not into this look. I had 2 nephews who wore their pants that way and every time they walked past me I would pull the back of their pants leg to make the pants fall the rest of the way. They learned quickly to wear a belt around me. This is the most ridiculous look I've ever seen. Have you ever watched these kids try to run when their pants are like that? It's hilarious!!!!

I try to let my boy's express themselves,to find who they are,to be an individual, however there are rules to some of this. My oldest likes baggy pants and that to me is fine, they come down to his lower part of the hips, but no,I dont allow his butt to hang out, otherwise,he can dress how he like's. God know's I myself went through some fashion Icks, lol, that at the time I thought was cool, but my parents allowed me to express myself. It's part of finding yourself,of growing up,and as long as it's not offensive to other's,showing to much, then I allow it:)

My son has kinda grown out of that. He's been wearing nicer pants lately, more suited to him. He has friends that still do the butt-hanging thing with the pants, though.

I think it's a stupid look. I remember some kid in high school (back in 1992) some kid's pants fell to the floor and people laughed at him but he should have had the pants up and not low on his butt like he did.

No, nor would I allow it. As long my kids live in my house, they will dress appropriately. I agree with Sara S. It makes you want to smack someone, like their parents!

My stepson DOES and he looks like a jerk!! But he is 17 and he thinks he knows everything and you can't tell him anything either! My own son would NEVER wear clothes like that. Ridiculous!
