We moved into this house three years ago. We have had so much trouble with electricity (even though the power box and outlets are all fine) and we have had countless other problems (i.e. leaks, things going missing etc). I sometimes get suddenly cold, even when the heating is on. The other morning, around half one, I smelt burning plastic. My friend told me this means there is a malevolent spirit or a demon in the house. Please Help!

Well, you can write or call some of the tv shows like, T.A.P.S., Ghost Hunters, Ghost Whisperer, Etc. So they can check out your house to verify, your claim. If that doesn't help try to get a real psychic ( like Peter James ) to do a house reading. Make sure you don't tell them anything about the house. Just ask them that you want a reading done at your house. Finally, if it gets worse you will have to have a Catholic priest exorcise ( the demon ) the house, thus fixing the problem. It also might help if you find salvation in Jesus, before trying to exorcise the demon. That way the demon can't take over your soul.

If you go to the website for TAPS, they have an excellent article on how to identify a malevolent entity vs a friendly one. A large number of folks are very fearful of the unknown and pass anything and everything off as being evil and demonic whether it really is or not. Things going missing is typically not the work of a malevolent being. Although in rare cases it can be. Cold is said to accompany any spirit, whether good or bad. But the burning plastic doesn't sound like a friendly entity at all.
I live with at least one, most likely more. I'm not about to try to banish them on my own because who knows what could happen? Talk to a local metaphysical shop and see what they suggest. Different methods work for different people and some don't work at all.

There is a supposed belief that if you say to the malevolent spirit or demon, " Brother Juniper knows you are here", this will frighten or shame the entity away. It has been a while, but I believe that there was a Monk in the Dark Ages, who outsmarted Satan and that Satan and his minions have been so ashamed by this, that they will leave immediately. Or you can try saying the Lord's Prayer in Latin, and sprinkle Holy Water in your house.
On the more practical side, try contacting a licensed electrician, plumber, or someone who is a reputable HVAC contractor to help you with your problems about your house. You can still have those problems you mentioned and the cause will be with more mundane origins.

First check the physical reasons for these conditions. Get someone to check the wiring of the home. If there is a problem get it fix and then wait and see if something else happens. If you still have odd phenomenon and know that it's not the house call a Bible believing priest to bless the house and you. If that works but sometime later stuff starts up again, leave the house. If it follows you I hope you find a friend in Jesus.

I smell burning every time I am about to get a migarne. If I can smell it I ask someone if they can smell it to so if they can't then I take a tablet, the migrane and the smell gone without the need of exorcism.
I get noises from the radiators all night and if I watched a scary film before I went to bed, I can make up any scary case in my head.
Electricity can go funny without blowing out your fuse box, you just get the lights go lighter and darker but not big enough surge to blow the fuse.
As for getting cold suddenly, everyone get the odd shiver trough, doesn't mean it is a demon.
PS Stop watching Supernatural.

Perhaps this all originally started with a Malevolent and unqualified Contractor? For all you know the house should or might be condemned. The house should have been properly inspected before you bought it. If you don't own it, report it regardless. I would look for another place to live before you become ghosts there too. Call an electrician asap.

Plastic? Spirit or not, I'd check my wiring if I were you, Hon. You may have a short somewhere. You definately don't want your house catching fire. Get a couple of bundles of sage and burn it all around your house while holding it, especially around the doorways. This will let it(the spirit) know it is unwelcome. Also, use your own mental powers to erect spiritual shielding around your home. You can do this. Then, nothing will be allowed in unless you allow it.

First I would need to know what is your religion. There can be many causes for this, but I would have to say that is sounds like there is an entity present. If You are a wiccan then there are some banishing spells that would work. Also a good cleansing ritual would work.

First of all - keep calm! If there is a spirit/energy there, it might not necessarily be malevolent, it may be looking for help or attention. Take a look at this webpage for ideas and tips on how to handle ghostly intruders and good luck!
