Animals with mammary glands are mammals which is where the name derived. So a dolphin is a mammal. Also with the exception of the montremes (egg laying mammal) all mammals give birth to live young.

There is a species of fish that is called DOLPHIN and there are mammals that are called Dolphins. The difference is in the circulatory system of the blood. Porpoise's and whales are air breathers which support a Lung, Fish have Gills.

because they suckle their young ,on milk

Mammals are land animals that breathe air
and Dolhins have lungs they bread air like whales ,seals ,Orcas,etc

Dolphins are strictly mammals if you're talking about dolphins like Flipper and the ones at sea world.
There are also dolfin/dauphin/mahi-mahi/dorado/and a few other names sometimes misspelled as dolphin that are served at seafood restaraunts, and that's a fish. They look nothing alike.
