i can answer the first part, people always put down the company they work for. no one ever likes how the company runs, the fact that no one feels they get paid enough in retail, and the managers in any job seem to have rules that make no sense and only make life harder. employee put downs of their company are definetly not exclusive to walmart. the people who shop there? maybe they are just embarresed to shop at a discount store?

I shop there quite a bit. A couple of weeks ago, I watched the documentary WalMart: The High Cost of Low Price. It was interesting and makes me feel quite guilty for shopping there.

I think it is because:
They are the Posterchild for bringing down The Mom & Pop Stores
They don't pay their Employees very well, nor give them adequate HealthCare
They pay Women less than Men
Wal-Mart has been criticized and sued by many community groups, grassroots organizations, trade unions, and environmental groups, for its extensive foreign product sourcing, treatment of employees and product suppliers, environmental policies, use of public subsidies, and store impacts on local communities and businesses, and other issues. Wal-Mart has been accused of unlawful activities, including predatory pricing, enforcing a policy of greed, discrimination and violation of labor laws.
The reason why you like Walmart is because of the Lower Price, but there is also a Dark Side and Price to all of this....

i don't put the people down that work or shop there, i just don't shop there and i'd only work there if my choices were to work there or be unemployed.
I really hate that place, its too full, too crowded and the store puts too many others out of business.... the majority of their wares are made by kids in sweat-shops, and there is entirely too many things for sale in there that is just junk and a complete waste to purchase.

They have the feeling everyone who goes there is cheap or poor. And They are too insecure about that because they are rich Egotistical snobs who's mommies or Daddies payed for everything. Or they are 85 yr old millionaires who got there riches from an inheritance that they didn't earn and think they are above us. Not all people of wealth are this way but I do feel most are this way.

Although it's a cheap place to shop, it's putting a lot of smaller businesses out of business, and there have always been rumors about the child labor in other countries, and about the low pay and lack of insurance and other benefits, etc., etc.

I like the prices of some things at Walmart like Toilet paper, paper towel and cat food... and some makeup stuff too.
I like shopping for clothes at Target. I love their clearance racks!
I've seen worse people at Super Kmart than I have at Walmart. Especially in the middle of the night. ;)

I shop there all the time-thaty way you can afford the more expensive places too. I think some of their employee pracxtices are wrong and of course they are the big nameless entity-like all corporations. It makes the employees nameless too---
