My husband took a VERYsmall drill bit and put a small hole in his toenail (NOT WITH the drill, but screwing it in gently himself). It created a hole and the blood underneath came out and he felt immediately felt relief. It's probably not the best of ideas, but it worked. He sanitized the bit first. I'm sure I will get some thumbs down, but my husband had no problems with it, so I think it's a good idea. Good luck

This is going to hurt for awhile, the pain will go away, give it a little more time, and yes, you will lose the nail in all likelihood, but it will grow back. You can try soaking your hand in cool water, it helps sometimes with the pain and swelling by equalizing the pressure, you can also take simple over the counter pain medication. Elevate your hand, when sleeping. Don't wear a bandage on the finger, it will press on it and make it hurt more.
It will heal, you will have to tough it out for a bit longer. If it still hurts the same as it did in the beginning, go see your doctor.

I've done the same thing to my toenail, and I was bleeding and everything. I know the pain you're going through. I was hardly able to walk from the pain I experienced from my nail.
The pain went away after about 3-5 days, and my nail fell off a while later. Right now my nail is still in the process of growing back. It feels weird, but it doesn't hurt at all. Don't panic, everything will be OK soon.

I agree with the above. You have to relieve the pressure from under the nail in order for it to heal properly. But you have to be very careful putting that little hole in that nail bed, you do not want to go too deep, just enough to relieve the pressure.

I would take a sewing needle and slowly work it through the nail to let out some of the blood..that is what is causing your pain.
