Um, I got sick (I think) a few days ago....like tuesday. And it started off with a sore throat, I got my fever going uo past 102 several times, I had the chills, I have sinus drainage, and now I have diarrea. Like every time one symptom ends, it brings another on. I'm wondering if I have TTS, because a few days before I got sick I was using a tampon....I'm scared that I might have Toxic shock.
I've looked around the web, and it says you also have to have a rash...well I don't have one. I'm just wondering if you have to have a rash to get TSS!! I'm pretty worried. I'm 14, and I know women under 30 usually are more asseptable to get it. Some info would be nice!! Thanks.

Toxic Shock Syndrome is EXTREMELY rare, despite the fact that all tampons now carry warnings about it. Back in the early 80's there were a huge number of deaths and illnesses that were traced back to tampons, but they were nearly all from one particular brand (Rely), which is no longer available. Rely was different from other tampons because it was super absorbent (like, one tampon for the entire day). This led to bacterial growth and extreme dryness, which led to microscopic tears in the tissue, which let the bacteria into the bloodstream... basically, a very bad thing. Today, there are very few cases of TSS, about 17 out of every 100,000 menstruating women.

To prevent TSS, women should use the lowest absorbency tampon that they can, change the tampon every 4 - 6 hours, and alternate tampons and pads so you aren't using tampons constantly.

TSS progresses very rapidly. Usually within two days the person will experience a severe drop in blood pressure, leading to disorientation, shock, and even coma.

I seriously doubt that you have TSS. It sounds like you have the flu. Although there's nothing you can do about the flu (it's a virus, so antibiotics won't touch it), you may, for your own peace of mind, want to see the doctor anyway.

Im 13 and placed on tampons too. My mom would not like the idea yet she is commonplace with that it really is my body. and really see you later as U substitute Ur tampon many times like quite a few 4 hours, U will decrease Ur probability of poisonous wonder syndrome, in simple terms tell Ur mom to study the pamplet interior the tampon field and U can comprehend Ur probability of having poisonous wonder Syndrome. ANd personaly i'd not do this because it would leak and which will be undesirable.
