Sounds like you're having problems with the infamous GM Passlock feature.Take it to your Chevy Dealer.

If your car sits for an hour, it should start, but this is a problem when you have to be places at a certain time and the problem is unpredictable. I had the same problem with this Passlock Passkey thing. I had to take it to the dealer and spend a couple hundred to get it fixed. Before I did that, I saw some websites that tell you how to do it yourself, but I didn't want to take the risk.

No you cannot. You have a theft system which has a fault. It would need to be hooked up to scan tool to pull the code. Normally there are two different problems. Either the key is bad or the ignition cylinder is bad.

You can`t bypass the theft system.have it fixed right by replacing the ign cyl hsg which has the passlock sensor intergrated in it.

Had this happen on my 2000 silverado, it was the ignition switch inside the steering column, not the key switch.
