There's not a genre you can search for in order to get italian music. Italian music, just as music from any other country, is available in many genres, not just one.

However, I recently moved to Italy and living here I've managed to get to know a few italian artists I liked. I don't know what kind of music you're into, but I can tell you a few names I liked:

Negramaro (Punk-Rock), Tiziano Ferro (Pop), Eros Ramazzotti (Pop, Love Songs), Pier Cortese (Pop-Rock), Luca Dirisio (Pop-Rock), Le Mani (Rock).

You can just search for those names on the internet and download songs from them if you like.

Go to Towerrecords.com and do a search for Italian Music. A decent amount of listings will show up and you can even sample some of the songs as well.

Even if you don't have an MP3 player, you can download itunes and check through the radio section. There is a listing there for Radio Italy and it's free to listen on your computer.
