I know what you mean, especially being a former servicemembers myself. I'll always support the troops no matter where they should end up, but that doesn't mean that I have to support the war. And I know for a fact that all the troops don't support the war, but signed the paperwork when they joined the military, so they go where they are needed whether they like it or not.
Your also right about the cowardice thing, if they really wanted to support the war, they enlisted and join in the fighting.

BTW I was outside Kuwait in 1991 also and in a a few months I will be there again. What is a just war by the way? A legal war? War is a nasty buisness all the way around no matter the Cause. My personel thoughts are this I support the troops and The mission. I believe that ALL people should have the right to freedom of speech. If you want a positive outcome in Iraq write your politician and tell them to leave us alone and let us finish the job. Any error that has occured in Iraq is due to, to many politicians worried more about who's in power in Washington or what is PC -on both side of the aisle by the way. If your Idea of support is by pulling us out before we accomplish the Job I don't want it or need it PERIOD. I have lost to many friends and fellow Soldiers to be able to accept this attitude. The way that America treated Veitnam vets is why so many hide behind this thin cloak of support they supposedly have because to most of them, there will never be a Just war or legal War but they just don't want look as pitiful as that free love and drugs generation. Be ashamed if you supported that and be ashamed if you supprt this. How about this support the mission, support the troops assure victory so your kids kids don't have to worry about the real threat that terrorists present in the future America. Oh BTW isnt it freedom of speech to be for the mission on here also? But that doesn't count because we serve and they havn't? Is that right?

Thanks for question and insightful comments. To answer your question: The equation doesn't make any sense at all. If you repeat something long enough the theory is that rather dull witted citizens start believing it. The "think tanks" in D.C. are working over time these days. The correct equation is:
Supporting War = Killing and Injuring Our Troops
I'm frustrated by the sophisticated doublespeak and spin that seems to be delivered to us through mass media. If you don't think about it, the doublespeak sounds correct. Thanks for taking the time to think about this. George Orwell must have been an inspiration to the "think tanks" on this little ditty.

LOL thats the spin.
Heres my favorite to explain the middle east:
"they hate us because we are free"
2 sentences later:
"we are giving them the gift of democracy"
Wont they just hate us more if we give them the freedom they hate us for??
If thats not true they suicide bombed the twin towers out of Jealosy??
As far as opposition to war being cowardice. Thats the right wing with their mix of faux patriots, confused people and genuine good american who somehow came to believe Fox was a news network.

first let me say thank you sir for your service. i commend you on your efforts to secure the freedom for the nation.
personally i support every man and woman who has sacrificed their lives and given their all for every American.
due to my age most vets i know are from the first gulf war and they have many problems due to the weapons used in that war. and yet, we are in the second phase of that war a decade later.
i know boys and girls now who join the military because they are excited by the action and the necessity of work to earn a living and i pray for them everyday because i know they are in a bad situation. i don't believe in the justification for the slaughter of Iraqi's and other Arab peoples but i also want my brothers and sisters fighting for this country, our union to return home safe...

The point of public relations slogans like "Support our troops" is that they don't mean anything... That's the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody's going to be against, and everybody's going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn't mean anything. Its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something: Do you support our policy? That's the one you're not allowed to talk about.

During the Bush/Kerry election, I was speaking to a friend and stated that I thought I would vote for Kerry(because he is a veteran and might bring our troops home).
A woman overheard this and spun around and shouted at me"WHAT? YOU DON'T SUPPORT OUR TROOPS?"
How can one argue with such a logical statement?

Thanks. The idiotic wartards on here would have us believe the same hate radio garbage they spew, fortunately their attempts to do so are getting more shrill each day, and the voters are seeing through it.
