German & American high schools student exchange program
Question Details: A friend of mine is an English teacher near Dresden, Germany. He would like to form an exchange program with a high school in the United States that teaches German. The exchanges would take place for two weeks (most likely), and during the school year. Each year they would alternate. It would be up to the traveling students and their families to pay their own way, and up to the host families to provide housing. I went as a chaperone two years ago when my friend taught at a different school. This year, his former school and its US counterpart are preparing for their SEVENTH exchange! It was a positive experience for all involved, and life-long friendships were formed. Any teachers/educators interested? Thank you

This is a fabulous thing. We do the same with a school in Mexico and the kids LOVE it. It is the absolute best way to give the kids an authentic experience.

I could check with my German teacher, but she is old and about to retire so I doubt that she would be into something like this. Also, parents would be reluctant to send their kids with a school that they do not even know at all.

My advice: check with schools that are near you. They will know your school and may be more willing to trust you even though you are a stranger. They can ask friends that they know in the area and will feel better about it.
