For my biology coursework I have to write a section on how I will make my experiement a fair test. The experiemnt is looking at the results of using different sugars in yeast fermentation. (maltose, lactose, fructose, glucose and sucrose). What do I need to keep the same, and why? I need this too sound SMART!

thanks!

In order to have a fair test there must be equal parts for everything. A fair test can be defined as all variables except one are controlled for example 1 tbsp of yeast 10ml of glucose and 1 cup of water, the next part is 1tbsp of yeast 10 ml lactose and 1 cup of water. the variables in this case are lactose and glucose but the amount of used and the amount of everything else is controlled therefore a fair test. what would not be a fair test is 1 cup of water, 1 tbsp of yeast 10ml lactose, ext test 1 cup of water 2 tbsp of yest 10ml glucose. in this case there are two changing variables the amount of yeast and the different chemicals therefore it is not an fair test because more than one variables are not controlled. hope this helps.

use a control (i.e. a solution without any sugars).
