Heres the situation,

You borrow 50 from your dad.
You also borrow 50 from your mom.
Now you have 100.
You buy a shirt for 97.
You now have 3 on hand.
You keep 1 for yourself.
You pay 1 to your dad, and 1 to your mom.
If you look at it now, you owe 98 now.
Even if you add the 1 you took for yourself, it's 99.
Where did the other 1 go?

You are double counting. The net result is that your parents each gave you $49 ($50-$1). So you are $98 in debt. The $98 = $1 in cash and a $97 shirt.

it is a mathematical reasoning fallacy.you have spent 97 out of the 100 borrowed and returned 2.that makes it 99.you have 1rupee on you.so the total is 100
