Which one is better, the festivities downtown or on the south side, and why?

South Side Irish! I love the St. Pat's parade downtown and dyeing the river green (well, more than it already is!), but nothing beats the festivites at the bars and festivals of the South Side. There are a ton of Irish people on the South Side, and they love to party!

I have been to both, and would have to say Downtown.
Dying the river green is hard to beat.
Plus the parade down Dearborn is a little better than the south side parade.
Best spot for the Dearborn parade: Second floor of the McDonalds near Daley Plaza.

SOUTHSIDE Hang out with the real Irish @ Riley's Daughter, old style wooden bar, then hang outside and share a mug or 2 of green beer...or whatever your poison might be...All of the southside establishments are involved on the parade route...always a good time.. And the food is spectacular

Havent been but I heard the south side was better ....I guess the real Irish who live down there celebrate better the the band wagon wannabees....

Unless you appreciate amature drinking fiascos don't go anywhere near the Loop parade. Stay away. Check out the SouthSide parade instead. Better yet, go to a family-friendly catholic church party, even if you're just by yourself and you're not even catholic.

downtown! cuz thats where the people are! the river is dyed and not only that....its great to be around alot of people celebrating the same- compared to southside which sux...and i live here so bla

south side is soo much better. better crwod, little crazier, more relaxed, lots of bars right there. police are cool.
