I have recently downloaded AVG free edition.

I've not had any issue's with AVG free as no virus' have appeared on my pc since I've used it.

Just make sure you regularly update it (set it to auto update), run systems scans weekly and be wary of what you download onto the pc.

(You should be running version 7.5.446 now to be totally up to date.)

An anti virus isn't enough.

You need to install one firewall.
http://www.comodogroup.com/ - Comodo firewall.

You need all these anti spyware programs;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com
Plus;
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware
Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week.

AVG anti virus install itself, so don't worry, just update it.
Read the Help manual, and visit the website for tutorials.

I have been using 'AVG free edition' for several months and have not had any problems on my laptop. It is extremely kind to your PC in the sense that it won't slow your computer down! - make sure that auto-updates are on, that is the only must with this software.

However I have been using this software in collaboration with 'CCcleaner' and 'AD-aware SE' and I feel this combination is certainly enough protection for you PC.

All of these are available form www.download.com

I'v had it for 2 years now and it is the only thing I have that actually "catches" viruses. I have had 6 or 7 in that time. My computer starts running funny, and I'll run that and it catches it and my computer works right again. Its good. You'll aslo know something is up when the icon in the corner is in grey colors and not the red,green, yellow and black. That means you have to run it.

I have used AVG for several years and it works great. Be sure and set it to auto update and scan.

I've got it and it seems to take care of itself pretty well. As long as you set it to automatic. I'm an idiot and I got it to work so it must be easy.
