Do you think Asian films and celebrities will ever become mainstream? I mean, will Asian stars REALLY get a chance to step on the red carpet in Hollywood and get nominated for more than 2 awards? It seems to me that Hollywood is kinda racist. People who manage to get the Oscar are mostly Westerners, whites usually. Asians who manage to get the Oscar are too few. Ang Lee is the first it seems. Don't you think it's a pity? Someone, an ASIAN woman specifically, needs to step up and show to those racist Oscar judges what they are REALLY made of and what they could REALLY do. I heard a rumour 1 month before the Oscar that Gong Li was nominated for Best Actress Award but when the Oscar Best Actress Nominees List came out, Gong Li was no where to be seen. Funny, misinformed or racist?

Hollywood is a place for actors across the Globe, regardless of race and religion, to join and receive what they should have for their effort. Bollywood is just a festival based on Indians, NOT international like Hollywood.

Hollywood is kind of racist?

So how many "white" actors have received awards in Bollywood, then?!!!

Enough with the crying racism already. It really pisses me off when people complain about this sort of thing. The Academy has to pick five nominees for each category based on performance not race. Otherwise they'd have to pick an actor/actress from every country in the world and that's just too many. Would you rather have an Asian actor/actress nominated because of their talent or their ethnic background? I think it would be a real shame if it was the latter, don't you?

Sorry to say that you are still under the impression that Hollywood gives awards on merit. It seems to me that the only prerequisite to winning is what's in vogue at the time. Like a flash in the pan they jump from one thing to the other by popularity not talent. When Asian actors winning awards becomes the forum for higher ratings and being noticed in the rags and entertainment shows then it will happen and I agree with you this is a pity.

I think it's racist. Gong Li, not that I know of that person, should have been along the nominees. I strongly think so, and it is racist. Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Rinko Kikuchi, those are some women who can definitely bring this situation into our eyes and tell us completely of how it should stop. They need to do this for the Asian community, otherwise it will grow out of proportion, and we certainly can't have that. Many are mistreating this situation, because they think it shouldn't be worried about, but it should. Diversity is something everyone should have instilled in them, and prejudice should be long gone. We do not want our children and grandchildren, and generations beyond, who are racist to blacks, whites, reds, and yellows. We want them to join hands in this world and make a difference.

What about Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Lucy Liu or the famous director John Woo? They have all found great fame and accolade in Hollywood despite being of Asian ethnicity.
I love Asian cinema, from Akira Kurosawa to Takeshi Miike and everything in between. I think that the style of the films is very different to Hollywood mainstream and this is why they are not popular in the same way.
Hollywood is a little racist still, but that is because the market still prefers young Caucasian actors/ actresses over their Asian, Afrocaribbean and Slavic counterparts.

There's no point pointing a racist finger at Hollywood. It's not exactly known for giving alot of people a fair chance. Be it because of your skin colour or because you're too fat or female or ugly! It's the land of the self obssessed and beauty and shallow attitudes are the main theme. Ok, Charleze Theron deserved her Oscar for her 'uglied up' performance in Monster's Ball but there are probably 100s of ugly actresses who could have done it too. But we'll never know.

Hollywood should never be taken as some sort of guide for society. Yes, it's unfair there but hey, they all wear nice frocks! That's as deeply as you should think about it.

By the way, you shouldn't say that it's ok for Bollywood to celebrate Aisian cinema only and that Hollywood is for international purposes. No it isn't, it's Amerca's film industry they're celbrating else they wouldn't have separate foreign film catergories. Really and truly they would be within their rights to only celebrate American movies.

Racist? Asian actors/actresses not mainstream? Are you kidding? :-) Tell that to Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, and Lucy Liu!

:-) :-) :-)

Bollywood is just as international as Hollywood. Bollywood films are shown around the world.

Hollywood is renowned for being racist, that's why Sammy Davis converted to Judiasm because most of the movie mogels were Jewish. They were very anti Jewish so actors/actresses changed their Jewish names to western names. There are really only a handful of successful black actors, Eddie Murphy, Whoopi Goldberg, Wil Smith...so I think Asians will take at least another 15 to 20 years to break into Hollywood because it is such a closed shop.

i imagine human beings will be at liberty to have the opinion that they pick. they must be in a position to tutor there opinion, and those who pay interest (which must be a great number of human beings) must have an open thoughts, and perhaps substitute there opinion. some evaluations would no longer develop into some thing, notwithstanding it doesnt advise there worthless. regardless of if no one treasures your opinion, you should. Its what makes you who you're.
