The term 'classical' refers to the period. - the 'Classic Era' it's sometimes called which is around 1740-1810.
The orchestra in this period consisted of far fewer instruments than in today's symphonic orchestras.

In todays terms, it is complement of musicians that make up the instrument sections and seating arrangement according to what was common during the mid to late 1700s.

It's the same for the Baroque Orchestra, except for it being late 1600s into the 1700s. You should check out the link. It might ring a bell :)
