You can build an really nice computer for that kind of money...it's really easy to do. Just do a little research on the Internet...
Look at Newegg or Tiger Direct for the parts.
You can build a computer that's 2 times better for the money you spend if you build it yourself.

MUff!N got it right. I just ordered my stuff from TigerDirect last week. High power rig at half the cost if an Alienware of similar quality. Tons of sites out there for firstimers. Try mysuperpc.com pcmech.com and extremetech.com. extremetech also has some good component choices one for about 800.00

i always tell to anybody asking me about buying new computer not to look for brand name who make it like HP,eMachine,dell etc., instead look for its installed periperals even it is customize computer. because when you buy pc with brandname like HP your are not just paying for what is inside you are also paying the name of the company.

additional: some OEM maker like HP,eMachine,DELL etc., also use other brand on computer parts.
