I'm an American, but I lived in Hungary, where they have universal health care, for two years and my impression of it wasn't a good one. I know that Hungary is still considered a developing country but they're health care is far behind their progress curve.

I was talking to one couple who recently learned they were expecting a baby. They were very stressed about the medical costs that would be involved. I asked why they were concerened about that when medical care was practicaly free. They told me that (although they felt it was wrong) they were going to bribe the Dr's so that they could get real attention. Of course all that will be in addition to the near 20% sales tax they pay so they can have their "free" healthcare.

Healthcare is expensive yes, but in todays world most medical jobs are like working full time and going to school full time to keep up with everchanging advances. Not many qualified people will be willing to do that on a government paycheck.

Why push the issue then? Because it sooths some peoples bleeding hearts, sounds good to people who are struggeling to pay medical bills (hey I've been there too and I was all pissed at the government when I didn't get a handout.) It wins you votes and ultimatly makes people dependant on your government... right under your thumb where they have to keep handing you their vote no matter what kind of leader you are.

I know any person with a soul hurts to see someone struggeling to meet their needs, but universal health care is not the answer. Its just one step closer to practicing communism under the banner of democracy.

Oh, sure it is. Theres supposed to be a waiting time chart on the internet. Check out the article below to see what the Canadians think of their health care system.

It doesn't take a lot of brains to figure this out. If you pay for your medical treatment the doctor works for you. You are the customer. If the government pays for health care, the government is the customer, and you are a slab of meat to be processed by the government butcher.

Lets not pay word games like "universal coverage" and "single payer plan". Lets call it what it is government controlled and rationed health care.
