How do you clean an old milk can?

I bought an old milk can and want to remove all the dirt and possibly paint on it. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to get it clean? Thank you!

I used a powerwasher and cleaned both the inside and out. The water pressure also removed all the loose paint.

bleach should clean the dirt and thin off the paint

For the dirt, use some detergent. For the paint, you can use a paint thinner.

soak it in water for awhile the paint should bubble up then peel it out

use a wire brush. thats about the only thing you can do. i have done lots of them and tried the easy way,but scrubbing is the only answer.
