There is no scriptural basis for anyone to get expelled from a church for divorcing. This is a man made rule, not scriptural.

I had a friend who attended a catholic church and after years of an abusive marriage she finally filed for divorce. They asked her to leave even knowning the circumstances. She ended up going to a non-denominational church where I noticed a huge change in her. People were accepting her and she said she had never been more happy at a church. If this is happening to you or someone you know get out of there. There are much better places to worship God.

You can work on an annullment process with your previous marriage, the Catholic Church is strict also but I have never been asked to leave.
I am presently getting my 2nd divorce, the first divorce is over with the courts. I am still legally married in the Catholic Church so I am going through this, this is a 2nd step process to be free to go back and in the Church and remarry. It is all family values.
If it is the Catholic church, they believe in no divorce. It was not that filed for divorce to begin with, it involved a money deal that my ex - when he got money he was planning to ditch with his girl friend.

After my mom divorced her first husband, the people in the congregation were giving her bad looks like she was some kind of disease, just because she divorced a man who repeatedly cheated on her. Like its okay that she was cheated on but god forbid that she divorces the man that is cheating her. What hypocrites. She wasn't asked to leave but pretty much forced out by the rests dirty looks and whisperings. She is a stronger Christian now. Tell your girlfriend to not give up faith just because of some old fashioned closed minded idiots or over zealious bible beaters. I'm not a Christian now but grew up one but I seem to remember that in the bible it states that Jesus had mercy and helped the prostitute Mary Magdelene. If Jesus had mercy on a prostitute then why not a divorced woman, who is doing less of a sin (and I would really say is not even a sin) than a prostitute?

No one should ever have to leave a church because they are divorced. I have never been asked to leave a church because of divorce, but everyone sins and falls short of the glory of God. No one is perfect. Look at what they tried to do to Mary Magdalene in the Bible. I would find another church one that is full of the spirit of God. Anyone with any brains in their head, knows that everyone sins and needs help. I hate the traditional and religious aspects of churches. Jesus helped others, regardless of their sin, and he was awesome. More churches should read about him and put his lessons and examples in their every day life. Good luck!!!

I'm guessing Southern Baptist with Catholic in a close second. I've heard of it before. If your church doesn't want you because you are a "sinner" then you don't want that church for support anyway. Find a church that actually believes in forgiveness. That is what Christianity is about.

I have never known of a church that will ask to leave a divorced person. If somebody did that to you then they are wrong to do so !

I have a friend that was going through a divorce from her abusive husband. Her church thought it was wrong. They also thought it was wrong that a serial killer's wife divorced her husband. I told my friend that's one church I woudn't walk away from, I'd run.

There is no place in a church for such intolerance.
Church should be for forgiveness and love.
We forget that and start dealing with power and control we get this.
She will be better off this way.
Find a new church.
