I experienced something similar like a numbed elbow including hands may be about twice a month for 2 - 3 months. Our Doctor said it was just sort of being positioned under my body wherein blood can not flow very well during sleep. Other doctors said the same thing.
That happened to me after about two years from the time I stopped the aspirin medication given to me by one doctor. It was stopped when it was proven in several medical tests that I was mis-diagnosed as having a heart disease instead of just high blood pressure. All medications were withdrawn including aspirin.
Because of the problem, I insisted with my doctor to return the aspirin and since then I do not experience the same thing again.

Those two symptoms could be completely unrelated. It's hard to tell without a doctor's examination. If I sleep on my stomach with my arms up on the pillow, my hands fall asleep. I know someone who just had carpal tunnel surgery who said he always woke up with numb hands before the surgery. In the winter when the air is very dry, if I don't have a humidifier running or use a saline nasal spray, my sinuses dry out, and my nose gets stuffed up, and I can't breathe through my nose. I also use Breathe Right Nose Strips to help with my breathing at night.
It could be any of these, or it could be none of them. If you feel it is a serious problem, see your doctor.
