No. They can have the same name but not the same zip code.

Normally it shouldn't take much longer at all. They have letter sorting machines now that can often read the address and change the zip code. However, if that doesn't happen, what will happen is the machine will read the wrong zip code and spray that zip code on the bottom of the letter, or it will reject the letter and send it to a bin for hand sorting. If the zip code goes to the wrong place where the old (or incorrect) zip code is, the letter will have to be handled again and corrected and then sent on to the correct place. Usually this should only take a day or two more. If you are getting the letter from "far," let's say across the country, then it still should only take that letter 3 days to get to you under normal circumstances. So if you add an extra day or two on it would be 5 days. That is really the longest it should take. However, in a few instances, the letter could start "looping" and going back and forth between the right place and the wrong place. Then it's hard to say when someone would actually notice that is happening, but I personally would think that the same clerks or carriers would be coming across the letter and notice that something is wrong. Also, since your area changed zips a couple of years ago, they usually set up the machines to realize that people will be sending things to the wrong zip for a while, and they should all be aware of this. The letter shouldn't be sent back just because it has a wrong zip code. But these days, I really can't assure you that your letter would be handled correctly because the postal service is being gutted by the Postmaster General and they often have new, temporary workers who have no training and no idea what they are doing, so they could very possibly not handle the letter like it's suppose to be. I hope that helps answer your question. And I hope you get your letter soon! If it's been more than 5 days, I think you should call the post office that delivers your mail and ask if you can talk to your carrier, they will need your address to know who your carrier is. Tell your carrier your problem and ask him/her if they can keep an eye out for your letter. If they won't let you talk to your carrier, tell the supervisor your dilemma and MAYBE somebody will care enough to help you get your letter.
