whatever happened to youth clubs, My friends and I went to a youth club from age 12 until we were 17. That was back in the 80's. Times have changed.

Would love to agree with you..but believe that a lot of these kids today that hang on street corners are a bit more interested in other things than tea, coffee or coke as their attitude when you pass these gangs shows.I believe that National service in the voluntary sector, and I am not an old fogey but myself have 3 teenagers, would keep these kids off the streets and be a more productive way of meeting others their own age.

IF they would only chat with one another and not drift into behaviors that will ultimately cause them trouble this would be fine. The problem is that kids will be kids, experiment, dare one another into extreme behaviors, have arguments, etc. I remember when our "hang outs" were the local drive in restaurants. There were 'circuits'. Certain high schools frequented certain ones and others different ones and then there were those where the crowds mixed. We met one another, different girls, and burned up lots of gas. We drank beer, quite illegally (there were always some older low lifers that were eager to buy it for you if you provided the cash). It was fun but sadly also dangerous. There were many fights, car accidents, etc. I wish there were some way for youths to get together appropriately and enjoy growing up, but 'hang out' spots without proper supervision (and then the 'fun' is gone) are not the answer.

There is the need for a "safe" gathering place for Kids. It has to be one that gives direction more than a social spot because it will attract trouble makers. In general Kids in school need more opportunities to play sports and not be "cut" encouraged to Select an extracurricular activity that takes place of a class and is credited towards graduation. Make School challenge minds and kids want to be there. There will be less kids on the corner.

Good idea, except instead of putting young people in a cafe with coffee and tea, let's replace the coffee and tea with books, and rename the cafe a library.

The business owners I know don't want kids/teenagers hanging around and the teens I know don't care to chat except on their cell phones. Youth centers are good ideas and there are quite a few where I live. They are pretty well taken care of and chaperoned during dances and other functions.

When I was in my teens, there were several places where teenagers would meet and chat. places where they would sell ice cream and sodas . Then came the youth centers. Now it is the arcade places! They need more places for the teenagers, to keep them off the streets and out of trouble!

The "Drugstore" era has long past us by. The amount of outside influences kids are faced with today puts them in a bind. Too much influence from the TV, Music, Movies places them in a position that they try to imitate thinking that it is reality.

not at all. The kids arent interested in anything that is created to try and entertain them. No matter how many new community centres, skate parks, clubs etc are introducted, the little brats arent interested.
