I too have a capital one card and had a nice low interest rate. I made a payment that posted one day past the due date on my credit card statement (not 30 days) and they incrased my interest rate another 7%. I called and they said if I didnt have a late payment for the next 6 months they would reduce it back down. That was over 2 years ago and they still have done nothing despite my calls.

I told them to close my account and cancel my card and they said they couldn't since it had an outstanding balance. I told them they were lying as I have closed other accounts and paid them off over time.

Bottom line is you can not fight the credit card companies because there is no one to complain to and the government will not do anything to put a stop to their fraudulent practices.

My best advice is to pay off the cards and get rid of them, just keep one for an emergency. Only have a low limit on it too so it isn't tempting to use.

Capital One is legalized robbery.

If you mean the credit card company, I'm happy that I paid them off several years ago. They have what I consider deceptive methods. They will let you go over your credit balance and then charge you extra money for doing so. I only wish there was a way to quit them from mailing me advertisements. I have written them and they won't quit. It's almost like they want people to be hooked on them. I worry that someone will falsely give my info and get a charge card in my name.

To Miss V (above): You might try this Federal Government "Opt Out" program to get credit card companies to stop sending you offers.
