Almost a daily occurance now, we hear about, grim murders and rapes. Sometimes they are so awful, I can't bring myself to watch it on the news. Not just in my Country either. There are so many horror stories. How do people manage to sleep at night? Cause I can't. I lay there and start to think, my brain just won't switch off. Sometimes, I even cry. Are there others like me?

The media focuses on "if it bleeds it leads" ... don't fall into their trap. Just turn it off. With billions of people there will always be abnormal people doing weird things. You are just seeing a tiny fraction of what people are really doing. 99% of activites are good. We can't change it so ignore it. Let the police do their job. I sleep because I know the dead don't feel anything ... and probably the people who commit the atrocities don't feel anything ... so that just leaves you .. for the media to make a buck. Ignore them.

I agree so much with what Michael said. I am in a similar position to yourself, I can't stand to see people cry. If it's in a film I can normally detach myself from it but when people cry so do I.
I rarely watch the news because it is usually full of war and gore or some celebrity has done this or that and it's only a personal point of view but I don't want to know about such drivel.
I used to live in the UK and moved to Spain 8yrs ago and it was the best decision of my life, yes there are awful things that happen in Spain but generally the way of life is so much more relaxed, Spanish still cling to family values and more importantly kids are safer on the streets.
When you go to bed take a really good book and maybe you will fall asleep thinking about that rather than the days events. Don't put the news on at night or better still don't watch it at all.
You could try some sort of essential oils or a herbal drink to relax you
Putting your question on here doesn't give miracle answers but at least you know other people have the same opinion as you, what's the saying a problem shared is a problem halved.
I hope you can come to terms with this
Best wishes
Anna

I guess you mean that you are not able to sleep with a peaceful conscience, and in some ways that is good. Find ways that you can help others who are being victimized and persecuted since you feel so strongly about this. I think you will find that the sleep you do get will be more restful

i have seen many people just like you, just dont worry you are too sentimental about the things happening around you, dont think much about this things just think that you were just watching a movie and forget it, because good and bad things always exist together and unless there are bad things you will never understand the goodness of the good things and never appreciate it, so be cool just focus on the goodness of life and enjoy each and every moment of your life...

The reason they can sleep at night is because they are numb to the things they do, or perhaps in their mind it is justified to some bad experiences in their past. Don't worry, you are not alone :3
