I have a yard with 2 large live oak trees. My land lord has given me permission to redo the yard. I am trying to re-work an area in a corner to make it into a rock garden with cactus varieties and the little oaks keep coming thru. How do I get rid of them? I've pulled them up numerous times and even have a thick layer of gravel in hopes of choking them out. I don't want to use chemicals if at all possible. I have som large variety aloe vera in the same area.

As long as you have the oaks, you will have acorns, then you will have seedlings.
You are just going to have to pull them out by hand.
If you can rake out the acorns before they sprout, that will lessen the amount of seedlings.
