Christ the Good Shepard in the Catacombs, Does anyone know?

Does anyone know why this fresco was never completed?

Good question, even if I can't give you an answer.

The fresco might have been left undone because of the artist's death (perhaps the artist suffered martyrdom himself--or herself!), or a shortage of pigments, or any of many possible reasons, including the artist's departure from the area or need to go into hiding.

I'm not an art historian, so I can only suggest possibilities, any of which could be correct or all of which could be wrong.

Because no body bothered to complete it since it was not all that important.
