Fair dinkum! I've visited Australia a few times, and found people there to be bloody great folks. Lager all around, and none of that Foster's dingo piss!

Great question. I'm American and really know very little about Australia. It seems like a pleasant country to live in. Austrailians are easy-going people, easy to get along with. They work hard, but know how to kick back at a pub and have a good drink with their closest friends. Each of them has somekind of wilderness appreciation. I figure most of them live near the coast and are fully enjoying technology like Americans do. I'm just painting my mental idea of Australians, I could be way off.

A lot comes from TV and books for me because I've never traveled there. I like to think of Australia as it is portrayed in the book and movie "A Town Like Alice". It's fun to listen to both Australians and the British speak english. But you have to listen closely sometimes, because they have so many words we don't use in the US.

Skinny, tall, blond or red haired with lots of freckles, swaggering around in leather boots and leather hats with those funny leather coats. They do not say make a mistake- they say "mike a mistike". They say" mite" instead of "man".
Characterwise, a mixture of laid-back, cynical, but also upbeat, rough and friendly. Not hypocritical and not two faced. Blond Australian women are not "dumb".
They eat BBQ, pumpkin soup, and kangaroo steak.

from the movies and commercials they would appear to be like the crocodile dundee character...aye? well, i know they are not that but the press here in the US has it that you guys have more women then you can handle...thats a good point for you...and you drink a lot of Fosters beer and stay in Pubs a lot playing darts and fighting like a crazy man over soccer (football_) while the women just act like they are in heat 24/7...am i right?

They are people. Just like you, just like me.
They can have opinions and attitudes, can be rude or polite, can be snobbish or friendly and open. They are just people.
I like most of the Australians I have met, but then I like most of the people I meet.

Most of the Aussies I know are pure bloody characters....I don't know if it's your society or what but they have very stong personalities and are fun to be with....and don't bow to authority as easily as Americans do.

I do not know what they think ..but I can tell you what we are.
We are isolated from the rest of the world and we do not care,
country's try to associate themselves with us yet they have no clue who we are .
We have the impulsive attitude of "If you are a good sort we will help you out , But if you kick down my gates I'll kick ya f-u-c-k-i-n'
a-s-s-.
