Hi My daughter was 3 months prem. A lot of prems have issues with gaining weight. My daughter really struggled for a few months putting on weight. We were weaning her and she wouldn't eat savoury food the little minx so she was not getting enough protien for growth and as she was beginning to be so much more active she was using up all her cals and putting on very little an oz a week if we were lucky. She is now eating a more varied diet and it seems to have improved.
She may need a catch up formula for prems (my daughter is on Nutriprem 2 a nutritionally complete catch up formula). If she is on o2 apparently its harder to put on weight as they have to work harder to breath. Also reflux can be a big issue with prems.
It could just be that they measured her wrong my HV and Cons never agree - she shrinks when the HV measures her. There can be other reasons but hopefully as long as she is not losing weight she will be ok.

If she's not losing weight then I would think she'd be alright my daughter who will be 5 wednesday was always small when I was pregnant with her she wasn't gaining weight and the docs were acting like I wasn't feeding her even though she never lost weight I tried to tell them about how small I used to be and how small her dad was but they still acted stupid until this one doctor ran all the test to see if she had something just finally said what I have been saying she's just going to be a small person I know the doctors worry everyone about stuff like that if she was gaining too much they'd want her on a diet if she's eating and is normal then I'd just say she's going to be small now my almost 5 year old is very tall and very skinny my 2 year old almost outweighs her.

I agree with mommyme, measuring a young child is hard when they keep moving all over the table and its very easy for the doctor to miss measure the child and just write down a figure. Its happened before with my daughter where i have been told she was the same height 2 months before when I can clearly see that her cloths are too short. If she is not losing weight and is otherwise healthy I wouldn't be to worried

Hi! Well, this is just one reason it may seem your daughter isn't growing....My son's doctors office is very bad about measuring my son wrong. They don't just miss a few inches of growth, they write down crazy figures on his chart. My son is 19 months old. The last time I was at the doctor with him, the nurse assistant wrote his height at 23 inches! That was his length at birth! He is 33 inches long...not 23! They do this all the time and it goes into his chart that way too. I've told his doctor and he acted like I was being overbearing! Anyway, are you positive they have measured her correctly at her appoinments? One time they measured him 3 inches too long and when he went the next time it seemed like he didn't grow, I again had to explain this to his doctor. (I measure my son at home, before we go.) I would start weighing her and measuring her at home also. That way you can see her growth! Good luck to you, and I have a feeling she will be just fine! :) I am sorry you have to worry about this, worrying about your children is the worse thing.

With her being premature, maybe it's her body's way of catching up. Once she gets the appt at the hospital and they do their tests, then the family will get the answers.

I know you're worried, but the hospital is probably the best place to figure this out.
It'll be okay - she seems healthy otherwise?

Perhaps she is missing a part of the X chromosome she got from her parents and since she's missing it, her body doesn't have the information it needs.
