Ignore them. That bothers mean or rude people way more than if you provide them with "ammunition" or justification for being an a**hole!! It pisses them off even further if you are pleasant to them!

A rude person needs to know how they are being experienced.
They may not want to "hear you" or acknowledge what you have to say, but heck, somebody's gotta let them know, or they'll keep acting the way they do, and perhaps even become worse.

You need to tell them that you will not tolerate that type of behavior (detail what the thing they are saying/doing, and why it's rude to you) and let them know that there are consequences, lest it should happen again. i.e. "if you continue to talk to me in that rude, condescending tone of voice, I can no longer have conversations with you." Or, you could say, "i really don't like what I'm hearing from you, it seems like your attitude is >>_____. I hope you take some time to think about the way you talk to me, because I find it rather offensive.

Then, if they continue? Tell you where to "go" and how to get there? You say, ok, I can see my message didn't register with you - I hope you have a good life. Feel free to contact me when you're ready to apologize, because I miss the perosn I thought you were.

Or, you could give them the old one finger salute, and ignore tem always. It's a challenge, that's for sure. Good luck!

The best way that I've found to handle a rude person is to kill them with kindness. This comes from my Father who has been a salesman for the better part of a decade. Also, working with people in a passanger terminal, you have to remain calm, and not let them get the best of you.

Telling someone off because they are rude is just lowering yourself to their level, why bother? If you can't ignore them, be as polite as possible and ask them why they're being so rude, sometimes people don't even realize they are. If they continue to be rude, continue to be overly kind and walk away.

A little bit of both is right - you want to ignore a rude person when you realize he/she cannot be corrected and made to see reason. Otherwise, it's always advisable to be friendly to rude people as long as it doesn't hurt.

I know this is going to be easier said than done --- but you need to be assertive --- if they are being rude to you and it hurts your feelings --- it's like they are invading your space (if you think of it as a physical fight). The best thing is to be assertive by outlining how YOU feel. Some thing along the lines of "When you say ___, I feel ___". (Hope that makes sense!) And repeat yourself the same way over and over if you have to --- they should eventually get the message. Also, assertiveness is not always easy, so you need to be prepared that they may continue to be harsh to get back at you --- but you need to be firm. Good luck!!!

Ignore them if possible, if not kill them with kindness. Agree with them, tell them that you're sure it must seem that way to them. I usually end up belittling them, turning their own words against them. Or my favorite come back is either: 'Thanks, that's just the look (or whatever) I was going for!' or (I rarely get any thing back after this one) 'Gee, good thing I don't give a s--t about your opinion, isn't it?' And ,of course, smile, smile all the while..most don't know if you mean it or not!

Just ignore them. Rude persons are so proud that they will not listen or talk nicely to you at all. Show them that they are not so important in your life.Tell them that you don't like the people who have no manners, who are not well behaved.

~It doesn't do any good to be rude back, it just makes them angrier. Ignore them, easier said than done I know. We all have bad days too.~
