or just any mp3 player.

I'm music mad but I have nothing convenient to carry the stuff around with.

all you appleheads love your ipods - but do any of you have a good explanation for why? Why is the ipod the market leader? why should I buy one of those and not the competition? What's so great about itunes? etc etc etc!

it's a genuine question; I really want your opinions! thanks!

Here's the answer of why everyone wants an iPod: it's a fad. Granted, even when the fad is over, people can still use their iPods, but it's such a hot item because, well I don't know, it's a name brand item, I guess.

There is nothing really special about iTunes, except the software was made very well, and it is very organized and easy to use. You have to use iTunes for your iPod (some say that you can use limewire, but I don't know about this)

I love my iPod because it is compact, and even getting to choose what kind was really fun, because there were so many choices. I chose the iPod mini because I was in a budget of $150, and I knew that the video was not an option (besides, what's the point of music videos when you really only need the song?) I didn't want the shuffle because I had already created a long list of songs I wanted to get, and they probably wouldn't all fit on a shuffle; I also didn't want one because of its lack of a screen. The new iPod nanos weren't even out when I got my iPod, and I wanted more than just 1GB from a tiny black or white iPod nano. I could have chosen one of the older iPods, but I decided to get the mini because it can hold 1,000 songs , no videos or photos because it has a black and white screen, but for $150, 1,000 songs? WOW! Compared with the $150 nano variety that can only hold 500 songs.....

I hope that this helped!

i like my ipod because it has a colour screen and basically because its cool, thats the honest answer.

I think now that i have more of an idea i probably would have gone with something else. Not only do you get more memory space for your money with other competitors BUT you can swap songs with your friends, because with an ipod you can't upload your songs onto another computer.

Also ipods, i have personally found, that it was hard to get to grips with, it took me awhile to figure out all the functions especially with itunes whereas most other MP3 players are based on the USB hard drive so you can just copy and paste your songs onto the MP3 player.

Another point is that my ipod had a little break down and while its been fixed now (for free) it was a long procedure and i don't know WHY it went on the fritz.

This is just my personal experience BUT i do like my ipod and it definitely has the cool factor [no i don't have a pink one ;) ]

Hope that helps!

The iPod is a market leader because it was the first hard drive mp3 player in mass production that wasn't extremely bulky.
But mainly because since its first release about 6 years it was the only mp3 player with any kind of ad campagne, which lead to its rise in popularity and its development into a status symbol.

I bought a second hand Iriver H320. It is more flexible than an Ipod, plays lots of different file types and records MP3's directly from its line in socket and a microphone as well as USB transfer.

It has a 20gb hard drive which I have yet to fill.

Regards.

I just bought a microsoft zune. It rocks. It has a bigger screen than an ipod and it also has WiFi for swapping tracks with friends.

I think that Zune is the way forward.

With iPods you can only use iTunes

feels like some parenting/difficult love is mandatory on your concern. First, why does a 4yr previous have potential kit? Why are you permitting him to "call for" something? At 4yrs previous, he would not have the mentality to apply the potential kit exact and specific some actual dexterity regulations. to your youngster's protection, take the potential kit far off from him. finally, all kit made for abode use are 120vac, no longer even 240volts. there's certainly no reason for a 277 volt circuit, whether he "calls for" it.
