Thanks for the answers. But what if I am self employed and having a part time job at the same time? Do they still consider 17% of my gross income?

oh trust me it works.... oh how it works.... having been both the payee and the payer I can assure you that the financial pain is excrutiating when the CSA are working things out.... they do take percentage from your gross wage...

sooo if you were earning say
$500 pw gross you pay first about 26% in tax
leaving you with $370
then they take CSA payments say for 3 kids at like 32%
that is $160
you are left with a total of $220pw to survive on.... with rent on a reasonable accommodation being beyond that amount..... who can afford to live... let alone ever thinking about getting on with life..

Oh yeah they do make an allowance of a certain amount that isnt calculated so not quite that harsh but not very far behind it...

Does it work?? Not for the paying parent it doesnt... and often times not for the kids....

The CSA is a heartbreakingly merciless system... the only way my ex could wipe out his debt to me for child support was for us to swap roles.... he took on the kids and his debt was decreased on a monthly rate until it was paid..... and now I pay him child support....

To the CSA income is income and it is allllllllllllll taken into account.... wherever it comes from.. if you have a business they will want to see your annual statements over the last two or three years to see how much you earned from your business... and when you do your tax returns if your estimation for what you will earn did not pan out...... then they will readjust your debt for child support.... if you were too far out in your guesstimate they can fine you for that too..... best of luck...
