The Knarr was used for cargo.

It was shorter and broader than the Drakkar (aka "Longship"), and only had a few oars. The average knarr was 16 meters long, comparared to the drakkar which averaged 28 meters and was equiped with up to 60 oars in addition to the sail.

The knarr was slower than the drakkar, but sturdier and better suited to long voyages,
