I see that you need to be employed to get medical benefits, what happens when you can't work? Does the government support you?

You don't have to be employed to get medical benefits. If you are below the poverty line (less than $20,000 a year), you can get free medical care (K-CHIP card for me, or it use to be). Also, there are free health care clinics everywhere. And, for people who have a hard go of it, there are government programs like food stamps (it's the equivalent of money, except you can only buy food with it) and HUDD (it's a housing program, helps you pay rent). America really isn't that bad! I've seen people go from nothing to something...I mean, I guess you can do that in other countries but you can do it here also.

I know someone who went from being an alcoholic with no home, family, friends or anything to a psychologist. He went to a homeless shelter and they helped him out...they got him fixed with a small apartment, food, and got him contacts to the local community college. Okay, I'm off subject...oh well.

It depends. You can go to any ER and get treated, they won't turn you away, but they will try to collect payment when you're done. You can purchase 'cheap' insurance, but it's mostly for catastrophic illness or accident for about 50/month. Even if you work, not all places offer benefits, though that's supposed to change for companies with more than 10 employees I think. If you are destitute, or can lie well, you can get free coverage. If you are a child, under 18 you can get free coverage. If you are pregnant, you can get free coverage. Where I live, in California, I see alot of people with free coverage, and wonder why.... They sure seem like they can work to me, but, I don't know their full story.

Living in the US is a blessing that alot of people don't realize. When you can't work there are tons and tons of things that people will do for you. The government will try to support you, and if you need money you can take out a loan if you want. I'm sorry that i don't have a lot to say, but i love it here.

I can't help but think this question is more of a sarcastic jab at my countries problems.

However, there seems to be NO SHORTAGE of people that want to live here.

I live in Florida and love the State, the politics leaves alot to be desired as with most locations in the US or other countries.
