I have encounted several times when people started asking about my salary.. I will normally turn around and ask them how much they are making and they will normally keep quiet.. I further explain that we need not know too much cos my salary is not going to feed him/her and the same applys to the other person's salary... as long as I dun borrow from them.
As for the the decoration of house, if your friends mention about the ugly crap thing, just throw back sentenses like:
1. Oh, at last I found somebody who hates this.. (indirectly telling that he/she got taste where no one elses have)
2. Oh, since you mention that this is ugly, I will make sure I dump it before you come along the next time...
Alternatively, make a trip to the person's home and start to critise right from the moment you walk into the house... Good luck.

regarding yr salary .. tak kira siapa lah .. i find it personal to tell people how much i earn coz i can bet with u people will sure comment about what yr earning.. if people ask.. u can just laugh laugh and say alah cukup makan .. den try to change to another topic..
about the house thing.. just ignore the comment no use trying to reply back coz nanti jadi cita lain lak..
like shah said i agree ,, most org melayu macam gitu .. ade ade ajer benda tak kena .. dah tu bawak2 bawak cita kat org lain .. i pon org melayu tapi i really dont like that kind of attitude .. i believe it happens within the older generations more often ..
e.g: ade this makcik (mamee) she came over to "visit" my mom for whatever reasons i donoe... all she did was to complain about my cousins house about how beserak the house was when there is like so many anak dara living there .. imagine aper agaknye dia mengumpat pasal kita org to the next house..

If someone, no matter who asks me what's my pay, I just say that this is a very personal question which I am not oblige to answer, or, maybe just say, not as much as I would want it to be. Regarding the style, well, I might answer, I live here and I like my home like this. And don't foget to give a very big smile.

Oh! For sure I will let her talk for all I care then smiles & never give her the satisfaction to answer those silly questions. Then as soon as she's already out of your house,... try this link it will make you feel a bit better. Just imagine that you're saying this in front of her. Good luck! (- -,)

My reply has been in the past i earn enough. That is one thing that has nothing to do with anyone else. My style is my style and no one else has to like it. My responds would be "thank god we all have different tastes."

Yeah, typical Malay behavior. I'm just glad that I'm not married.
