I think they love all fruit and veg (and cheese). As long as it's in hamster sized portions or they will run off and store it and then it will be all mouldy in the corner of the cage.
Frequent handling I think makes for a tame hamster and plenty of treats whilst doing so. Therefore hand=food=friend.
Personally I would not feed them anything through the bars as this I think leads to biting fingers that are put through the bars later on.
Anyway good luck....Hamsters rule!!

Most fruit and veg will be okay for your hamster as long as it it washed. I have always found that walnut and grapes and melon make particular favourites. Just give them small pieces and check the cage to make sure it is all gone.
Hamsters will get tame pretty quickly as long as you put the effort in. First get your hamster to take food from your hands then try using little pieces of yummy foods to entice your hamster out of the cage and onto your hands. Let your hamster feed whilst on you or in your hands (are you noticing the trend?!?). Make sure that you talk to the hamster in a quite tone all the way through as hamsters learn very quickly to recognise the sound of your voice and you will find that after a while you hamster will come to the cage doors just at the sound of your voice.
Enjoy your little hammy!

Syrian hamsters will become tame quickly with regular handling. They will enjoy most fruits and veggies just make sure you only give him a small amount that he will eat in one go because he will store it otherwise and it will go off.x x

I had 2 male chinese hamsters which never ever got used to being handled. Always getting bitten by the critters! It's ok to give them any veggies, mine loved pieces of apple and raw carrots. They also loved Snack-a-jacks!!

Hi, I give my hamsters lots of different food, which includes all types of vegetables, apples, pears i also give them cooked pasta(not cooked in salt water) mashed egg, also have you tried the chocolate drops from the pet shop they have hundreds and thousands on them. Keep handling your hamster the more you handle her the more she will get used to you, handle her every day. Good Luck........................

Most fruit and veg are OK but only give small amounts and only every few days or else they can get diarrhoea.
Handling will take time, just take it slowly.

dont wait for her to "Become tame". I once had a rabbit and i waited until she wa 1 year before i tried to pick her up again but she just got worse. you have to tame them a ssoon as you get them.
you can feed them apple etc. but if your not sure just ask your vet.
