The original concept was fine. I think it has spiralled out of control now.

The European Union is an Organization based on the principle that all states must have high standards of living, now bringing some poor countries to the level of the well developed states (economically speaking ) is not a FAST and easy process.
We encounter the same things in Romania, many ppl hate the Union, because they wish things changed in a couple of moths, and this is Impossible. The Development of a country is a Long process and ppl have TO DO sth for that, things will never change while doing nothing, they themselves have to contribute at their well being by working hard and respecting the rules that will lead them to success.

I agree with Toothy, Ireland was in the EU for twenty years before anything started to happen. Granted back then it was so large and the economies of the world were not so strong. But it still took us the better part of a decade to fully capitalise on our emerging economy. The EU's effect will be better human rights and working conditions. The other effects will take a bit longer but they just have to hang in there, it is better to be in the union than outside it, especially if you are an emerging economy,

To soon to tell, although I know some Pol's that are opting to work in Europe rather then come all the way to the U.S. for the dollar. The euro is better and easier and cheaper to get home.
