my carburetor was flooding bad and just got worse. I ordered a new one and put it on. the old one was back firing thru it and the new one is doing the same thing. And I have lost some power. Someone told me that it might messed up the cam or the values... Does anyone have any ideas???

If it pops back through the carb once every 2 revolutions, you have 1 exhaust valve not opening. Either from a flat lobe on the camshaft or mechanical problem,IE, broken rocker arm, broken rocker arm stud, bent push rod, etc. Pull the valve covers and spin it over and watch for movement on all the valves. repair as needed

I have owned a lot of s-10's and still do. The first thing you should do after what you say you've done so far is do a compression check and check the fuel pressure. With these two tests you will know for sure what the problem is. Oh yes, purchase a good manual such as Haynes with all the spec.s and how to of mechanics on this vehicle. Please don't get rid of it as these vehicles are hard to come by and are in high demand. All of the s-10's I own have over 200,000 miles on them and are running great. Keep up the maintenance and these vehicles will last a very long time. If you need any further help don't hesitate to contact me and I hope this helped.

If the popping through carb is a rapid-repetitive action worse with more throttle you give it, I would suspect a bad lobe on cam. If it just pops once bad then recovers, check the timing like mentioned. I personally would upgrade to a 86 or newer with fuel injection. It is tough to get carbureted vehicles running well these days because of our blended fuel, ESPECIALLY a varijet equipped 2.8. I replaced many a intake gasket on those back in the day, and realize the project to just get valve covers off the thing.

sounds like the timing chain jumped a tooth. set the crank on top dead center and see if rotor button points to number 1 wire

have the fuel pump checked.it could be putting out too muck gas and bypassing the needle valve in the carb.also if it floods too much, then you will have to change the oil, cause it will run down into your oil and dillute the oil.

If you are backfiring through the carburator, you have a timing issue. Check the timing. It may be as simple as that.
