Lies about insignificant little trivial things. Things that nobody even cares about. What makes people behave that way? Are they mental or evil? I seriously want to know what goes on in the mind of a persons like this. Is malice their intent, or is it that they have no concept of truth? Can anyone shed some light on this topic for me?

This is a characteristic of what is known as a Sociopath.

Some relativists would say that you cannot call these people "evil", just that they think differently.

That is a lie.

These people have developed a mindset that is totally centered on how they feel and think. Lessons on living in harmony with others are lost on them completely, because they have no concept of the significance of others.

You mean as much to them as a runaway car does when it runs over you on the sidewalk (assuming the driver has passed out or some such thing).

Yet they are worse than the unfeeling, unthinking car, because they have the ability to fabricate falsehood, in their own self interest, without thought to the effects this will have on others.

I always ask people this one question when they doubt the seriousness of this issue:

Do you believe in angels? I mean, any angels? Even just one angel? Take for instance, the archangel Gabriel who announced to Mary that she would be with child of The Holy Spirit?

If you can say that you believe in even ONE angel, then you have to accept the existance of DEMONS.

Though modern psychiatry would call this fantasy, much of the world would have no trouble calling these people evil, under the influence of demons.

Whatever, just avoid people like this, for they will take you down with them just like a person who is drowning will try to crawl up and over the body of the person who is trying to save them.

All behaviour serves a purpose for individuals. This purpose can be defined in three categories

1. Attention seeking (wanting attention from someone or a group)
2. a Tangiable item (something or someone you want)
3. Escape (wanting to get away from an environment or a person)

A compulsive liar can be subconsciously motivated by the need for attention of others even at the cost of someones reputation. This behaviour is reinforced and perpetuated by other people i.e.

- They dont want to be rude and tell this person they are lying
- They cant prove the persons lying
- They say or do nothing

Thus, if you confront a compulsive liar and especially with evidence, and in front of other people, of their lie, you can destroy their credibility and the likelihood of them lying to you again because they know you and other people will no longer trust or listen to them (this may take a few times).

You have to be cruel to be kind ... among my friends and I, we call this "tough love"

~You're talking about my ex-husband! He lies because he has low self esteem, he thinks this makes him look good.
He also doesn't want to tell him employer that his checks need to be garnished for Child Support. He thinks it makes him look bad. What makes him look bad is NOT telling his employer and his boss finding out he's a dead beat dad.
He lies about things that don't even matter. He also lies so much that he BELIEVES his own lies!
I don't understand his way of thinking the way you don't understand liars.~

They think they are boring and feel they need to lie to liven theselves up. I think they are just stupid tho because I am a human B/S detector and just go along with the lie until I think the time is right to tell them they are full of it...... all lies come undone eventually

i want to impress you with my larger than life size, make you
believe that I am Jack of all trades and hence those lies about
trivial things. those lies will not normally do any harm to anyone.
my main intention is to establish my ego. we who lie thus are just to high lighten our skill and knowledge.we cannot be stopped.we just enjoy those harmless lies.[not my confession]
