From time to time I'll pour some Jack Daniels on chicken or steaks to try and tender the meat. I was thinking of marinating some steaks in Jack Daniels in a bowl with various seasonings.

However I'm concerned that after I cook it, there will still be too much alcohol in the steak for my pregnant wife to consume. I'm anxious to try this, but not so anxious to harm my child. My wife is about four and a half months pregnant. Thanks.

It's fine, there won't be any left heat makes the alcohol turn to sucrose.

She'll be fine! I did the same thing all throughout my pregnancy! My husband and our friends used to cook brats (sp?) in beer and then smoke them on the grill just about every weekend at our house while I was pregnant over the summer... and you can't tell a pregnant woman not to eat a smoked brat. It never bothered me, and our baby was born perfectly healthy! When liquor is heated, the alcohol pretty much vaporizes and you're left with the flavor. If you're that concerned, contact her doctor. But this once shouldn't harm anything until then. Just be sure to cook her steak medium to well done. That way you'll know the alcohol has been heated the entire way through. She shouldn't be eating meat that isn't thouroughly cooked anyway. And by the way, what seasonings do you use when you marinate steaks in jack daniels? That sounds really yummy! I've never thought of that before! Post it on here! :-) Good luck to you and your wife! Congratulations! God bless!

Your idea sounds delicious. I'd love to try some.

As for the alcohol problem, cooking burns off alcohol, but I'm not sure if anything ELSE in alcoholic beverages (besides the alcohol itself) is bad for an unborn child. For now, I'd avoid having your wife eat the food, and go seek the advice of an actual physician. It's better to err on the safe side here until you know for SURE.

Such a small amount of alcohol isn't anything to worry about.

"The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recently conducted a large study including 400,000 American women, all of whom had consumed alcohol during pregnancy. Not a single case of fetal alcohol syndrome occurred and no adverse effects on children were found when consumption was under 8.5 drinks per week. 3

A recent review of research studies found that fetal alcohol syndrome only occurs among alcoholics. The evidence is clear that there is no apparent risk to a child when the pregnant woman consumes no more than one drink per day. 4"

When you heat alcohol you actually reduce the alcohol content to virtually nothing, all your left with is the beautiful flavours but none of the percentage. If you are at all concerned then try marinating in red wine, and a little garlic...red wine has a lower percentage of alcohol and has the added bonus of calcium.
But rest assured cooking with alcohol is fine for us pregnant girls.

It's doubtful there would be much alcohol left if you cook it well - grilling is usually 325F or higher, and alcohol evaporates at about 173F. However, I haven't found specific references that tell how much gets evaporated. If in doubt, you may want to just skip the Jack Daniels project for now until she has the baby. (In the meantime, try balsamic vinegar and spices - I've found it quite yummy.)

I think she should be ok. I'm almost five months pregnant and my husband marinates food in Jack Daniels and sometimes beer and i'm fine. Just dont do it too much. It's good you're concerned though. Hope I helped some.

Because alcohols generally have a low boiling point, most of the alcohol should evaporate from the food after cooking it. However I'd advise not taking the chance :)

i'm a convalescing alcoholic too with 8 a million/2 years of sobriety. I agree which you fairly are not relapsing in case you consume a meal with wine sauce. in spite of that, i myself attempt to evade ingesting something that I *understand* has alcohol in it, regardless of if it incredibly is cooked off. It basically would not experience applicable for me. So whilst i circulate to a cafe I won't order something that has a wine sauce or is obviously made with wine (i.e. veal marsala). and that i wouldn't in any respect consume something that has booze in it that's no longer cooked off (deserts are especially cases crammed with kahlua or grand marnier). yet i'm beneficial that many cases there's slightly of booze in a gravy or something, and that i parent if i do no longer comprehend it and would't style it, then i do no longer care. So various the time it incredibly is no longer a great deal. chuffed sobriety! isn't it great?
