People are fake, that's why. If a person goes through life always showing their true colors and only smileing when they truly feel like it, nobody would like them. You have to be a fake poser if you want to be accepted, otherwise you'll be seen as just a downer and that turns people off. That's just the screwed up way this world works.

Because their life is so god damn miserable
that if they didn't wear a false smile
then they would have a constant frown 24/7

My sister should answer this. She has made it an art form.
Because it is the done thing to smile when you wish to be polite.Even when you're in a bad mood, and hate the person.

for many, like the lady on Nanny 911 tonight it is to shield the pain they are feeling for their life situation. They smile and pretend everything is OK when it is not.

because they are unhappy with themselves or the things they do, so to pretend like they are wonderful and nothing is wrong they put on a fake smile.

Usually it's because they're afraid of showing their real emotions or upsetting others around them. They don't want people to see who they really are; they're afraid to let others in.
