As indicated above, any alkane should do. Household things which might be useful include "mineral oil" and "petroleum jelly" ("vaseline").

The classic demonstration of thermal cracking is to light a candle and let it burn a minute. You can then blow out the candle and reignite it by putting a match flame immediately above the wick so that the exhaust gases are ignited.

There's a difference between what we call paraffin (a cheap fuel for stoves) and liquid paraffin (a type of medicine for relieving constipation). Any liquid alkane will do, the more viscous the better. Try "liquid paraffin".
