The switch is an 8-port fast ethernet switch from Edimax, and i want to share the internet connection (LAN connection) to 2 computers.

It is very easy to install a switch, all what you need to do is :
run the switch and connect your PCs to it by using straight through UTP wires and a third wire to your Internet link.
You need to check your ip address and ask our ISP if he uses a fire wall to prevent users to connect more PCs.

Without getting too technical........Assuming you're using a broadband connection like cable internet or DSL, you should be able to share the internet connection for 2 computers by just plugging in both computers to the switch, since your ISP will usually give you 2 IP addresses. Other than that, you'll need a simple home router (D-link, Netgear, etc). The router will use the one IP address from the ISP to get all of your computers onto the internet. Walmart sells the router you need with concise instructions....check them out.

I AM USING THIS TYPE OF SWITCH
first check your lan card in both computer
connect the both computer with this switch(through Ethernet cable connect in computer and in switch)
go to your first computer
right click on my computer>computer name>change>
insert name in name and workgroup in wrokgroup
setup a home or small office network (start>settings>control panel>network connections>setup a home or small office network (left panel )

apply same with the 2nd computer
your network will be complete
