Band of Brothers is valid, as I believe it's a movie...just a really long one!.....Malarky was my favourite character, from beginning to end...the slow change of his character from the experiences of war.

Damn People!..there are some quality movies come out for this one!..Enemy at the Gates, Schindlers List, Platoon......"Too much like how it was!"...is it just me or is the landing scene from SPR just the best piece of cinema ever made?.....Speechless!

Enemy at the Gates was good, primarily because it wasn't about Americans in WWII. I liked Saving Private Ryan--mainly becuase I saw it with my great uncle(who was an American soldier at D-Day) and he sat their the entire time quiet as can be. The only thing he said about the movie was "That was too much like it really was." Enough to convince me.

While many people have great war movies on here, I am going to go a different rout and suggest two lesser seen foreign war movie that are INCREDIBLE....I am a huge war movie fan and I dont think any war collection should miss these movies!

First, is the Japanese animated film "Hotaru no haka" aka "Grave of the Fireflies." It is about the struggle to survive during World WAr II for a young boy and his little sister. It could quite possibly be the saddest animated movie, and it is definately kind of depressing, but I promise you it's worth seeing at least once in your lifetime.

Second is the Korean film "Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo" aka "Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War" (in the US) It takes place during the Korean War which I loved because not to many films cover this far as it is often forgotten to bigger wars. It is similar to Saving Private Ryan in that it is about two brothers who are fighting in the war and their fates. Very good and overlooked. One of my all time favorite war movies.

Two more movies that I would also like to briefly mention are "Seven Samurai" and "The Last Samurai" I consider both of these war movies that should be on any list. "Seven Samurai" is one of the greatest overall movies ever made, and I think that it should be mentioned in the same category with any war movie. Samurai movies can be great war movies too!

The Execution of Private Eddie Slovik, with Martin Sheen; difficult but not impossible to obtain.

He was the only American soldier to be shot for 'cowardice' in World War II, and the story if that of a simple man - a reformed juvenile offender - who, simply on the basis of his abilities, should never have been sent to the front line; he got separated from his unit, but found another one and joined it - so he wasn't running away - and then the bureaucracy took over. Various levels of commander subjected him to trial and it's absolutely obvious that they expected/hoped that the verdict would be overturned; but it wasn't.

I would defy anybody to watch it without crying - as well as being overwhelmed by the acting of the younger Martin Sheen, who has simply got better and better.

Probably not the answer you were expecting, but it's breathtaking.

Full Metal Jacket!!!

"Private Pile were you not ever held as a baby!"

The Thin Red Line was also outstanding. Inner monologues, flashbacks and great action sequences are the best way to tell a war movie!

World War III (1980 tv movie) Russia is suffering from a grain embargo and to force the US to drop it they invade Alaska and threaten to cut the pipeline if the US doesnt end the embargo. It deals with the politics around the war, and how it can all go terrible wrong.
