Shekhar is the great crown that distinguishes the Divine original One, the source of all, from all others in existence. It is the greatest royal crest that ever was. It is the crown of divine knowlege and of realization. In fact, Shekhar is a name of Lord Shiva that refers to His very special headdress - which happens to be the crescent moon, the fine symbol of luminous truth and the highest reality. As He sits in meditation, the lovely sliver of silver on His royal head provides a soft light - this is the light of knowledge that has been and is still being pursued by seekers and mystics throughout all ages, and all cultures.
Chandrashekharaya Namah Om !
"Salutations to Him who bears the crestjewel of the great moon on His matted locks !"
