..... I had two kids in my late thirties. I have missed three periods so assume I may be peri-menopausal, however I cannot risk pregnancy (though it would be unlikely). I have not taken the combined pill before but wondered if it may be an alternative to the likes of HRT (for the time being) which seems to have greater health risks attached. I don't smoke, I'm not overweight, my general health is good.

It would probably not a good idea to choose the combined pill at this stage. Even though you don't appear to have any significant additional risk factors, and even though there are no rigid age rules, many doctors would prefer to use an alternative.

HRT is not used as a method of contraception and would not be appropriate at all. Its only current 1st line indication is management of menopausal symptoms and the current usage is confined to smallest possible dose for the shortest possible time.

It might first be a good idea to have your blood gonadotrophins measured, you are young for the menopause but it may be happening. If this is proven to be the case you will not need contraception. Unfortunately if you are in this early peri-menopausal period the test may fail to show it initially as the hormone levels can fluctuate.

If this is not the case I would suggest a number of options. If you have a stable life partner, I would suggest the best method of contraception for you is vasectomy! It really is about time he put a bit of effort into the issue!

If not an option for any reason, or if he is just a wimp, the ball is back in your court. It would be worth considering the mini or progesterone only pill, doctors are happier that the safety profile allows its use for longer or the Mirena coil is method ideally suited to someone in your situation. It is a progesterone coil which is active for 5 years. If you are peri-menopausal one coil will see you over this period comfortably. Finally you could try 3 monthly depot progesterone injections.

Hi. I would consider that the combined pill should be used with care by someone over the age of forty. It is unlikely that your GP would want to prescribe HRT if there are no other symptoms of menopause. However if you are not averse to IUD you may consider the Myrena which is impregnated with progesterone dissolves slowly over a period of 5 to ten years say. The fitting is usually done at the local hospital by a specially trained practitioner. The Myrena is slightly different to the old style IUDs and requires special skill. It is more painful for the patient but the benefits can be worth a few minutes of discomfort. Your periods will probably disappear all together after three months or so and this is perfectly normal. Who wants them! A very safe option and no hormones to process through your liver! See Internet for information and forums from other users of the device.

The pill does regulate periods but i do not mean to be rude but i think the doctor would maybe try to talk you out of going on the pill due to your age . I am 37 and my doctor has told me i need to come off the pill now due to my age , i don`t smoke either i`m not overweight but i`m also not a stick insect , hence i am waiting to go into hospital to be sterilised .. I have had 4 kids .

Good Luck x

Uterine fibroids are usually not dangerous, but can cause immense discomfort and lead to complications like anemia from heavy blood loss. In rare cases, they may cause complications that affect pregnancy.

In cases where there are no symptoms, treatment may not be necessary. However, proper diagnosis and treatment may be required if your symptoms are severe or causing complications. Along with conventional treatment, you can try some natural home remedies. Read here https://tr.im/C1bcZ

Think REALLY seriously about whether you want more children. If you are sure you don't then have an histerectomy. There are some frightening stories going round about this operation, but nowadays it is quick, simple, and safe.
Can't really comment on The Pill, but I do know that HRT treatment can leave you worse than the actual 'change'.
