Understanding is a psychological process related to an abstract or physical object, such as, person, situation and message whereby one is able to think about it and use concepts to deal adequately with that object.

Examples

A psychiatrist understands another person's anxieties if he/she knows that person's anxieties, their causes, and can give useful advice on how to cope with the anxiety.
A person understands a command if he/she knows who gave it, what is expected by the issuer, and whether the command is legitimate.
One understands a reasoning, an argument, or a language if one can consciously reproduce the information content conveyed by the message.

If I talk in English and you the party hearing , make some sense out of the utterings he understands. The accent, the dialogue, the intonation, and other things connected with speech, may be understood, that is they have received it in full. But how long and how much, in any cirucmstances the percentage of understanding will not be 100, as the person who generates his words have different dimension to himself, He might have uttered but the same uttering in a different mood, or in time, will have different meaning. For example, " Good Morning" said to one's employer will be different to that said to his employee, will be certainly different but with affection if it is said to his loving child, to his wife it will mean the other thing
So to understand what understand means, is some thing not understood so far. I understand like that
