When I type "ipconfig /all" into the command prompt, it reveals a different IP address than IP fetching websites.

I've tried numerous websites, and they always give me the same number, just not the one my computer gives me.

This is causing a problem with a program I use called DC++, in which it says that I have the wrong IP address.

Can anyone help me?

Wan and Lan IP are different...

When you IPCONFIG, you are able to see your local network IP.

When you go to a website like http://www.ipchicken.com , you are viewing your external IP, or your Internet IP (or also known as your WAN 'wide area network' IP)

LAN IP is how your network communicates with all of the computers within your network. This allows for the correct information to be sent to the correct computer... (for example, if you pull up a web browser, you make a request and then the request is sent to your computer, compaired to any other computer in your network)

WAN IP is how the Wide Area Network (aka internet), which allows communication between your computer and the 'internet'. Then it is up to your router to sort out localy to where the information is to be sent to. (for example, if you pull up a web page, the results should be sent back to you, compaired to sent to your neighbors next door)

well hope that helps...

Network Address Translation
google it.

Your router has 2 IPs. 1 on the inside (example: 192.168.x.x) and one on the outside (x.x.x.x)
The address that corresponds to your computer looks like the address on the inside of the router.

Think of the internet as one big network. While instead of giving every computer in the world an IP you can make a new network inside of your house IP. Your network is private and you can have as many IPs as you want inside your network.

when u give ipconfig/all

it gives mac address too, first clarify that.

if your computer is connected to lan or other network the ip for that can be changed by

mynetwork paces ---> right click ---> properties ---> choose tcpip service----> type an own ip and give else obtain it from server.

remember this is private and can be changed at any time

but the ip u got from the ISP ie for internet cannot be changed, unless u got another ISP.

There is a no-frill NAT between you and the entire 'Net, there's nothing that can be done, the NAT device could be your home router or some gateway in your ISP.
