I am actually trying to find this out for sure myself. I do know taking an axillary temp. ( under armpit ) that you either add 1 or 2 degree(s.) I learned 10+ years ago as a certified nursing aide it was to add 2 degrees. Now working in the same field of work everyone seems stuck on adding 1 degree. So its either, or.

I seem to remember from an old Dr. Spock baby care book that when you take a temperature outside of the body (say, under the armpit) you do add a degree.
