Reproduction -- Squirrels start mating when they are a year old. It takes about six weeks from the time the squirrels mate until the baby squirrels, called kittens, are born. Twice a year, in the spring and at the end of the summer, the female squirrel has two to five kittens.

This is from a Yahoo! Answer of some time ago: Baby squirrels are called Kits or pups. Male squirrels are called "bucks" female squirrels are called "does" and a group of squirrels is called a "dray" or a "scurry"

They are called babies or infants while in the nest (drey if on branches of a tree, den if inside tree). Then for the first year they are called juveniles/ hoodies/ asbo collecting bums. After the first year they are adults and known simply as squirrels. sorry, no special name for them, weird huh.. good Q
